Looking for the actual disk images (3, I think?), not just a DOS 6 bootdisk...

Any help is appreciated, thx :p

Of course, if I'm mistaken on this belief, please let me know and I'll delete this thread.

Yea I've seen that... unfortunately those are just utility disks which accompany the main 3 installation disks. Thanks for lookin out though.

Would FreeDOS not be sufficient? Is there any specific reason to hunt down MS-DOS?

Well mainly because I figured that MS-DOS would be fairly easy to locate (I thought I even had the disks around here somewhere)... but also because I'd already decided that I'm not very interested in having to become familiar with the various nuances of what will amount to another OS (FreeDOS with all of its extensions/enhancements is not DOS, anymore than Linux is UNIX). I have an old 200MHz PPro which I'm looking to get to the height of 1994 configuration for old gaming purposes :p Particularly since this is an activity I'm doing with my gf who also is waxing nostalgic right now, it's more about being able to dive right back into things as they were, more than learning (and in many cases, teaching) something new.

I must say, though, that your question did cause me to give FreeDOS a second look... and it appears that they have gone to great lengths to streamline the process for those looking to play old games as I am. See here.

Parts of MSDOS can be found in a few places. Combined they make the whole thing.

Win98 can make a DOS boot disk for you, which contains vital files like command.com, autoexec.bat, MSCDEX.exe, format.exe, etc. It's got Win98 trimmings on it, but it's all from DOS 6.21/6.22. You can also download boot disks from various places.

On the Win98 disc itself you can find other utilites like deltreee, emm386, xcopy, xcopy32, and so on.

Also, if you want to go hardcore you can find all the key DOS files in the BASE5.CAB file, also located on the Win98 disc, in the Win98 folder. It's not organized, but it has everything you need.

Best option would be to use DOS 7.0 that comes /w under Win 95, Just disable the GUI and wahlla DOS with all the trimmings..

Might end up going the stripped Win95 route... but still keeping my options open. Thanks guys, any other insight?
