I'm looking for a motherboard to fit in an ATX case (Sonata, but suggestions welcome).
it should have
  • SATA 3
  • USB 3
  • Cheapest HDMI option (i.e. integrated or fanless descrete)
  • 4 Ram slots
SATA3/USB3 not totally essential but I'm conscious of the fact that small boards have limited expansion. Budget is tight so looking for AM3

I think there are mini ATX boards too... As long as it fits in a mini ATX case like the Sonata, then it's fine.

go to newegg, input your required specifications.

buy one that has high reviews.

What is your price limit?

I have a Gigabyte 890gpa-ud3h, which meets all of your requirements.

I ended up getting a Gigabyte GA-880GMA-UD2H. It's too hard to drill down to the product you need (SATA 3 && USB 3 && AM3 && 4 DIMM slots). I don't care if there is 1x or 6x SATA 3 ports.

Thanks for the help anyway.

Just had a look at the manual and it seems that the Gigabyte GA-880GMA-UD2H does not support DVD-D and HDMI simultaneously. Didn't expect that from AMD graphics in this day and age. Is this a common occurrence across AMD mbs?

I think it is. They only support one digital and one analog output. Usually, you have to choose the default digital output in the BIOS too.

I guess this is only the case with integrated graphics and not a problem with PEG cards? I would have done this build differently had I known that.
