Isnt it fitting that my 1000th post would be to help someone in need. A friend of mine has a hard drive that died:frown:. They need to get the info off the drive if it is possible. There are data recovery services out there, I just dont know of any. I am in California and I would guess there are a few of them in the LA area. Can anyone recomend a good company to me??? If you could provide a link or phone number I would appreciate it very much. If not could ya bump me to the top so someone who has dealt with this problem might see it and share there knowledge. Thanks in advance😀

Here's one that I got off the back of a PCWorld Magazine. You should be able to find some in the back of a computer magazine.

Drivesavers (800) 400-1904

I didn't check the location, but if you check their website or give them a call, you should be able to find out. Hope this helps.

how dead is dead? wont spin up ? if it does spin up and detects then you may be able to recover it yourself. else your looking for data recovery specialist that can remove the platters from your dead hard drive

I'm told that there's a trick you can try, put the hd in the freezer for 30 min and fire it up, but, it only works once....

Just this last week I've had 2 15.3 deskstars die in 2 hours time.
Head crash, noise, still spinning but no longer reconized by system.
I contacted 4 drive recovery places, 3 your way and 1 in Georgia.
Est. price for each drive.......$1,400.00 to $1,800.00
Maybe I should be in the disc recovery biz.

So off they went to IBM rma as is, er...was
Hello Seagate Barracuda IV

its not spinning at all:disgust: I have never heard about the freezer trick. I am definetly getting a lab coat and some kewl tools!!!! $1,400 to recover 1 hard drives info!!!! WOW:Q I recomended the disksavers to them already, I will let them know of any others. Does anyone know of a *cough* budget data recover service. I dont know if they will pay $1,400. It may end up costing less for them to go and retrieve the info in some other manner. Thanks to everyone for the info & bumps.

I just gave the freezer trick a try. 🙁 Its still dead.
