hey guys... heres my system

amd3500+
dual sataII
x1800xl
1 gig pc3200

Im ordering a customer i new computer and i thought i woiuld give them my 3500+ and get a dual core or am2.

My problem is.... my asrock dual sata II says its compatible with an AM2 processor... and theres a little yellow slot on the motherboard for am2.. what is that?

I am looking at this
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Windsor 2000MHz HT 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Dual Core Processor - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/product/Product.asp?item=N82E16819103747
for $180

Will that work? My motherboard is 939 but says it supports am2 ... will it also support dual core?

Sry for noob questions... technology moves so fast.

Is this the best processor i can get for under $200 that will fit the ASROCK dual sata2 ?

there is no point in getting an AM2 processor with that motherboard. yes, technically it will work, but you have to buy an add-on card and there will no doubt be some performance loss due to this. the AM2 CPU also has a DDR2 memory controller, so there will have to be some translation in order to use DDR memory, so you're looking at even more performance loss. Throw in the fact that there is virtually no performance gain with AM2 CPUs over their socket 939 counterparts, and it seems pretty silly to use an AM2 CPU. Just get a socket 939 CPU like this one:

Why do you need a new motherboard? That dualSATAII is a socket 939 motherboard, so you can just buy a s939 X2 and be done.

agreed. there is NO performance advantage for AM2, so there is no point in buying one when you can just get a socket 939 CPU. besides, if you get a new mobo and AM2 CPU, then you have to buy DDR2 as well, which adds cost.

So you're ordering your customer a "new" computer and giving them your old 3500+?

ok guys thanks... i just thought maybe that getting an am2 cpu would be better.

I ordered that and im giving my customer my 3500+

There motherboard went bad on there HP computer and they decided to just get a new one. Ill reuse the CD, floppy and Hard drive... then order them a new motherboard.. give em my cpu and stick it in a new case. They are happy and im happy. Plus with my extra parts i just plug in a cd, floppy and HD and i got another computer to sell :) hahahaa >.<

LOL, you are the most crooked sales man ever... I hope your customer is a friend or something asking you to make them a computer.

Umm, selling something as new, when in fact it's used, isn't even crooked; it's just plain lying. At least we know who not to deal with in the For sale/Trade forum.

This statement is either reflective of a complete inability to construct meaningful sentences, a total disregard for your customers, or both.

And somebody who doesn't even know what CPU's go in what motherboard is nobody I think that is qualified to be in business.
