I've got the following choices that my wife will buy me for Xmas

1. 2005FPW/2001FP

2. X50v w/ 1-2GB card (for music)

3. Computer Parts (AMD 64, Motherboard, Ram)

What I really need help on is the parts to choose. Also any info on the X50. Would it make a good mp3 player along with all of the other functionality?

I'm currently using an overclocked XP 1800 (o/c to 2100) w/ 512mb ram. I've also got an ATI 9800 Pro. Is my cpu/ram/mobo holding me back? I think a good AMD 64 would be a nice boost in performance but I'm not positive.

Also I'd like to go LCD. I'm currently running (2) 21" monitors but i'd love to go LCD for all the photoshop and other things I do. I do game a bit (hl2/CS type games).

Damn decisions decisions...so hard. Help!!

Hmm. It depends how much you strive to be on the cutting edge. Personally I think your system sounds ok for now but thats just me - put me down for either option 1 or 2, slightly leaning towards 2 because it will retain its worth much longer than a peice of hardware and would make a nicer gift.

Noted :)

Well what I might try to swing is to get an LCD or Parts now, and the rest in a few weeks. I'd love to have a portable mp3 player but think that i'd be much better to have something that serves multiple purposes. Anyone know the battery life for the X50?

But as far as parts suggestions. 64 3200+? I'm just not sure about the current chips and different versions. Also about the ram, whats good ram for the 64 chips that overclocks well. Same for the chip/mobo. I like to overclock and have fun :D

I don't do Xmas for this exact reason...;)
Get your Babe something like a Rolex and I bet she'll not make you decide...any ways presents are suppose to be a surprize not a choice IMO :p

That topic could be a thread in itself! For my wife, I asked her this year to give me a list of several things and I will go shopping with those in mind. That way, she only has a slight idea of what I might get her. But the notion of gifts as surprises seems to be going out the window! Gift certificates & cards are quite popular too and I think they are great gifts, if a little impersonal.

We just got back from Hawaii this morning. I think she's been taken care of this Xmas :D Not to mention the gifts she's getting.

Yeah I realize it's not a choice. All of my other presents are, but she knows I've been wanting a new computer but she doesn't know enough about them. So she just asked me to get an idea of what I wanted and give her a list. I'll give her all three options, but they'll be in a certain order :p
