I bought a gateway 3018gz laptop. Out of the box it was working great, including the builtin wireless-G. It came with XPHome and lots of crap and I needed XP Pro. I was in a hurry so I wiped the drive and installed Pro. Installed all the drivers off gateway's site, and everything looked fine. Then I realized the wireless wasn't working. Device manager showed a non-working (no working drivers) "Network Adapter". I re-downloaded the intel pro/wireless drivers from gateway and installed again, no change. The intel wireless identification program couldn't find any wireless card.
Lots of looking, came across some broadcom drivers. Installed them and now device manager shows a "Broadcom 54g network adapter" but it still doesn't work. Gives a Code 10 - cannot start device error.
Lots of messing around with various broadcom and Intel drivers, and nothing works. Got any ideas?
Gateway site for the laptop: here
And of course, it didn't come with any CDs (supposed to make recovery discs yourself, but I was in a hurry like I said. Idiot me
