I know there has to be something that does this but don't know what it's called. I want to get cable TV channels outside because we sit on the deck and watch TV (small HDTV). This is to watch cable TV, not over the air. Doesn't have to be able to do HD, composite video inputs would be fine, but S-video even better.

Any ideas?

Also be careful, I've seen these kinds of devices completely kill Wi-Fi.

Are you trying to pipe the entire cable feed? Not even sure that is legal.

Budget?

The best solution would be a Slingbox and a Slingcatcher with a router setup in bridge mode. Would be a little bit expensive though.

Something small and under a few hundred bucks would be nice. I've seen them before. You have two of them, one is the transmitter and the other the receiver. So I'd have the cable STB composite or s-vid out into the transmitter and the receiver going into the TV. Of course I'd have to change channels on the cable STB.

The ones I've seen are about the size of a small paper back book and I don't need super duper quality. Just something I can take outside and watch cable TV.

Something like this would probably work well for you then. It transmits on a frequency range outside of wireless networks (at least the 802.11 b/g variety) and has a built in IR repeater so you can change the channels through it as well. Haven't found one yet with S-video or component but this is a good start.

Thanks! Still in the 802.11a and pre-draft N frequency range but given that I only have to go through one wall it should work fine.
