I remember when SP3 was first released it was just a small file (approx. 500Kb).

I need to upgrade to SP3 to install & run Turbo Tax.

The only SP3 files downloads I can find now are gigantic (336MB).

Is there a place (ie, URL) I can just download as an install file the SP3 portion (ie, simply upgrades SP2 to SP3)?

I think it was always that large. You might be thinking of the auto-downloader package, or whatever it was called. It would run then download the real SP3.

If I recall correctly that's how big its always been. 350mb should be to big of a concern unless you have bandwidth caps.

Hey, thanks much!

I finally found my download from 2008 - archived on DvD. It is the same file name. At the time it was referred to as SP3 RC2 (ie, release 2)

Im a bit concerned about installing it before I image my OS partition. The concern is that on Anand, SP3 installs were reported to hose a small percent of users. Also, I remember back in 2008 that I tried SP3 and came to the conclusion that it brought in some DRM and at the time I was having enough trouble with DRM fighting a new notebook that came with VISTA, but which I finally decided to downgrade to XP.

Again, thanks lots.

i interned at a hospital last year, part of my task: upgrade everything to SP3 (something like 7000 machines)

cant recall any SP3 issues. lots of IE issues, but that was due to oddball vendor stuff and the fact that the other intern ran his installs with the /nobackup switch so we couldnt go back to SP2/ie6 when we needed to. i dont even think we ran into any regular app issues due to sp3

uhh, i would not use a rc release anymore, plus i don't think that web installer will download it anyway

yes, it had mainly affected HP users with AMD chips as there builds had both amd and intel power management drivers which caused a blue screen at boot if you did not turn off the intel drivers on the amd machines

DRM? what drm i dont remember that at all.

"RC2" means "release candidate 2", which means it is not a final version.
