My friend has Windows 98SE on a Compaq ( I know 🙁 ) He is planning on buying Windows ME (full version) will he be able to install it over full version and get his programs he had on W98SE, also will this possibly screw up the Compaq, I know they have all that software crap.

i have had the experience where i put in the win98se full version CD into a machine with win98, it says there is a previous version of windows installed, and i have to get an upgrade version of the CD....

i don't know if they get better in winme though.

You can indeed install WinME full over Win98SE full. I did it and kept all my programs.
The fact that it CAN be done, doesn't mean that it SHOULD be done.

Your system will run a LOT smoother, faster and more stable if you do a clean install.

I can't answer your Compaq question. I build my own systems.
