i just installed win2000, and i've used it before but never done exciting stuff with it. now its just pissing me off, can any of you tell me how to do any of the following:

1) i'm tryign to delete things like outlook express etc. annoying! in win98 you can just go to add/remove programs, go to windows components and just remove it. but win2000 doens't even have the option. i try deleting the folder, it doens't let me. i try deleting the files IN the folder and they automatically regenerate. how can i delete it, and how can i stop this stupid automatic regeneration of files!!

2) in file sharing. in win 98 i used to be able to share a folder, and say anyone who knows a certain password can access it. how do i do this in win2000? right now it asks me for users and all that crap, i want it nice and easy- just share a folder with ANYONE who has the right password.

3) restoring network connections- win98 had the option to have a quick network restoration, so it doesn't reconnect to the drive, just verifies its there, saves a LOT of time. how can i do the same in win 2000?

Please help!!
Thanks

1) Windows 2000 came with a great(depending on your perspective) feature that allows it to remember which files it originally installed. If any of these files are ovewritten, deleted (by mistake usually) they are regenerated to their working original self each time W2K reboots, this ensures that you don't render your machine useless..

As to removing Outlook Express try removing IE and see if it will give you the option of removing components and seeing as OE is component of IE, maybe you can remove it that way.

2) I don't believe you can share the drives in W2K like you can in Win98..with higher security comes higher authentication requirements..

3) When you MAP a network drive in, you have the option of setting "Connect at logon", if you uncheck that, I'm guessing it will only get connected when you actually click on it manually or map it again later..

There are many differences between Win98 and W2K..a lot of it security related, so things are going to be tougher in W2K..unfortunately, you might be a single computer user at home without any need for such stringent security needs, but it's built into the OS and you have to adapt it to your needs..Regards
