Ok long story short:
I reinstalled win2k on a friends system.
I used deltree (after running xmsmmgr, and smartdrv to make it fast) to delete c:\winnt\, c:\progra~1\ and so on. As it seems there was a file in c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\... that was not deleted, so when win2k installed it created a new Administrator account under c:\documents and settings\Administrator.s7gh5...
s7gh5 being the default computer name it gave this pc.
so now i had
c:\documents and settings\administrator
c:\documents and settings\administrator.s7gh5
c:\documents and settings\all users
c:\documetns and settings\defaut user
since the administrator folder is useless i deleted it
then i created a new user.
loged on as that new user,
deleted administrator.s7gh5 folder
and reloged as administrator at which point it created the administrator folder
i then deleted the extra user and folder and thought i was done.
so now i had just
c:\documents and settings\administrator
c:\documents and settings\all users
c:\documetns and settings\defaut user
which is exaclty what i wanted.
problem is
c:\documents and settings\administrator.s7gh5\applicationdata\microsfot\internet explorer\ keeps popping up
the only thing in there index.dat (and a few of those random folders "b7ghtl" used for temp int files. or something)
and of course that folder isn't there under administrator\application data\
i went through the entire registry and there is no mention of "administrator.s7gh5" so all the paths point to addministrator\application data.
so why does it create that one file in the old folder?
i checked ie folder settings and everything points to administrator\
so any idea's? is there an ini file or something i need to change?
