My boss' friend recently opened a new restaurant, but due to health concerns he is not able to be there all the time to see how the restaurant is doing. Someone suggested that we set up a webcam so he can see how busy it is inside the restaurant during all hours of operation...spying a la' Mr. Burns. So now I have a couple of questions I wanna ask....

Is this a good idea to begin with?
Will a good webcam be able to capture the goings-on clear enough over a DSL connection?
Any suggestions for a good webcam?

I'll probably have more questions later, but let's start off with these for now. Thanks for any help you guys and gals can provide.

Cheers!

As much as I hate them for their pop-up ads, X10 probably makes the best low cost camera and software combination for spying on people like this. They even have a night-vision version of it now.

ah, that's a great idea! I have been using a pop-up blocker so I guess I've completely forgotten about x10.

I looked at their website and they do offer an over internet solution, I'm just researching this little project right now, and it all really depends if the guy wants to spend that much money on the surveilance.

Thanks ultimatebob for suggesting x10.

Anybody have any personal experience with x10's web based cam services? I'd like to hear more about it.
