Hey,

I have a small web design company, and have been thinking about the best way to host these sites. I have looked around at different web hosting companies, but a lot of them are either too expensive, or don't give me enough freedom to configure the sites the way I want on their servers. I figure that creating my own web server and having it co-located w/ remote access would be the best choice, but I don't know of any companies that can provide that service. Does anyone know of a company that will do that, or maybe a web hosting company that will let you work directly with IIS for the sites that you are managing?

Thanks

BiznessOnline.com. Pretty decent colocated room, also offer managed servers, and web hosting. How do I know? I work there (and I'm not promoting our service), but I've been down in the colo room, it isn't too shabby. Of course, we are located in Albany, but that's not too far from the binghamton area. PSINet has a dc in troy i think that also does colo stuff.

if you're going to be colocating you definately want something close, so i'd ignore most of the recommendations so far. you might want to check out appliedtheory has a beautiful dc in syracuse. not really sure what else is in the area, there are a bunch of good places in NYC, but that might be too far to drive in an emergency.

I use mylinuxisp.com for my colo needs. It's $150.00... very very nice price for co-location if you ask me. (of course you have to provide the box)

I wouldn't support appliedtheory... I used to use them, but their connectivity is very bad and their servers/routers are extremely slow... any connection going through appliedtheory instantly jumps to 500+ms
