Need way to direct connect laptop to home network

My home office is in my basement and I have an unused phone line and a coax connection. I need a way to get a cat5 connection in my office and then run this to my home router on the first floor of my home. I have wireless, but I am trying to use Cisco Jabber and the wireless does not provide sufficient bandwidth and my calls are cutting out.
Is there a way to use either the existing phone line or coax as the wire between my office and home router?
