Ok, here's the rundown:

Brand new laptop with Vista. Ran all the startup stuff and got vista installed and everything. Then my problem began. After using the internet for roughly an hour to two hours the browsers (I've tried both IE and Firefox) lose their connection to the internet whereas other programs like xfire, msn messenger, etc stay connected. Furthermore, when this occurs, the browsers will not close properly no matter what I try to do in task manager. When they get stuck restarting/shutting down the computer will not activate and I have to hold in the power button. I've looked all over the internet and there are a few places with people having the same problem, but they can't find a fix.

It's a completely updated 32 bit Vista Home Premium.

-Browsers completely updated
-All updated drivers
-Tried resetting the TCP/IP stack and winsock to no avail
-Tried turning off my wireless card and turning it back on but nothing except a full computer restart fixes it
-Disabled all firewalls to no avail

I'm almost ready to uninstall Vista and use something else it is so frustrating. Please, help me.

Can you ping to the internet? Next time it happens open a command prompt and ping 4.2.2.2.

If Yes:
Can you ping by DNS? Open command prompt and ping www.google.com

Sounds like a problem on port 80...

If that's the case, I would suggest it's an ISP issue.

Do you have another machine laying around that you can cross-check your connection on?

Hey... wait a minute...

Are you using Adobe Flash Player 10 by any chance???

That's EXACTLY what happens when you're running Flash 10 - it's buggy - locks up your browsers - Task Manager can't touch it - blah, blah, blah...

The FIX is to uninstall Adobe Flash Player 10 and install Adobe Flash Player 9 instead!

Here's some extra credit reading for ya... ;)

LoL! This happened at work today...

My boss was cussing up a storm - had 3 instances of IE running - all three locked up, of course.

I took the mouse and said, "Let's see if you have Adobe Flash Player 10 running".

His machine was sluggish as hell with the browser(s) locked up, but the CP finally came up. Sure enough, Flash Player 10 was installed, so I deleted it and BOOM - the browser(s) started responding. Then, I installed Adobe Flash Player 9 for him, and all was golden!

Heh! He just sat there all squinty-eyed with his mouth hanging wide open...

"How did you know about that?"

"What can I tell you? I'm a genius!", as I casually walked away.

Thanks, guys!!! :D

~Cool

Gotta run for a while!

I'm trying to setup my lappy to triple-boot Vista/Win7/openSUSE from the same HD.

I'll BBL and see how it went. ;)

No prob! Good luck!

I digress...

I'm running Win7 right now - just installed it on my lappy.

First site I visited was my production site. IE asked if I wanted to install Adobe Flash, sooo I let it install Adobe Flash Player 10. Worked fine on my site.

The next site I visited was MSN. I clicked on the "Top 10 Most Wanted by the EPA" link.

LoL!

I wasn't through 8 EPA fugitives before IE locked up on me... :|

Sooo, I uninstalled Adobe Flash Player 10, and I'm downloading Adobe Flash Player 9 as I type.

Okay, the Adobe Flash Player 9 download is done. Back to my triple-booting project... ;)

Latez!
