Need video card cooling!

besides blue orbs and ram heatsinks and such, i don't think there's much else you can do.

How about a big ol fan zip tied onto the card? I've heard of this being done before, but don't really see why you need all that cooling on an geforce2 mx.
 
Depending on your video card, you may want to take off the heatsink/fan and apply some good quality thermal grease to it, that could help.
 
a card cooler may offer additional cooling though not primarily meant for AGP cards!
Can you increase your case ventilation? 😕
 
just stick your card in the freezer for about 5 mins and the heatsink should come off.
get a lightweight heatsink and put on a global win fan. use artic silver apoxy to put the heatsink onto the chipset. you should be in business.

or just stop ocing.
 
You can try some thing like this. My 120mm Internal I just hung it to the bottom of the drive bay using some stove bolts and yes if you look closely those are old window blind hangers.
 
aznmist: I don't know if your video card came with a fan for the heatsink or not. My CardExpert GeForce 2 MX doesn't come with a fan. I took a new 486 CPU fan and attached it to the heatsink. It fits perfectly and is certainly better than nothing.
 
What did you do with your original vid cooler fan? There's alot of info out there about getting creative and mounting it on the back side of video cards. Seems the backsides, esp on geoforce cards, are getting hot.
 
I currently have a Hercules MX Prophet with a Blorb. It feels pretty warm when I thouch it. I want to get a better fan before i start overlcocking...
 
What about getting the fan to stay on the chip? Use thermal tape or what is good? My old tnt2 ultra's fan died and I need to get something to put on it so I can put it in my sisters machine. Thanks
 
Keep in mind the Blorb is not the highest performing Video card HS because it doesn't cover the whole surface of a standard Geforce/Geforce2 GPU. It covers the hottest parts though, so its cooling performance is at least enough to keep it alive 🙂...anyway, I think it's not very good.
 
Rojas: The 486 CPU fan and it's heatsink were held together by a plastic framework with four plastic "posts" that went into the fan's screw holes. I took it all apart and snipped the four "posts" off the framework. Then I put Super Glue on the posts and slipped each of them into the fan's screw holes. (I made sure each one stuck out of the fan as much as possible.)

Once it all dried I was able to slip those protruding posts right into slots on the video card's existing heatsink. It fits perfectly. Better still I can take the fan off at any time and the card will be in perfect condition. i.e., no warranties have been voided.

I turned a friend at work on to this method and he also did it. It's working like a charm for him too.

My suggestion is to get one of those copper heatsinks for chipset, millisec and 2cool probably have them.

The Blorb is POS IMO, and it's not just cuz I dispise TT.
They have to put engineering like Tennmax does into their coolers, then maybe they can become competitive.

it's not my fault that Thermaltake's products are crap!
And, by the way, I'm not sure whether they want to sue me here in Germany, where it's not so easy to force dumb processes. Don't get me wrong, I think USA is a great country (Canada as well 😉 ), but the American jurisdiction sounds a bit weird for most Europeans.
 
millisec has a cool kit with RAM hs's and a big copper HSF combo for it... I think I'm going to try that... anyone have suggestions on something BETTER than the thermal pads they use to attach it?
 
Arctic Silver Epoxy ought to do the trick...

Has anyone come up with a way to cool the back side of the card?
