I'm putting together a new computer and need some advice on what videocard to get. I want something that matches the other components I'm planning on getting. I want a card thats of good value - not extremely expensive bleeding edge thats going to drop in price by $200 in the next month but also something that will last a good while.

Here are the specs of the items i've picked out so far:

On a side note, should I go with Intel over AMD? I've always been an AMD fan and largely ignored Intel but I've heard some grumblings lately that Intel is far exceeding AMD.

Thanks in advance

I'd say wait and see how the new Radeon cards do. They may or may not be better than the 8800 GT, but the only solid piece of information we know is that AMD/ATi is pricing them to be quite the bang for the buck value (in the $170 to $250 range).

Worst case scenario is that the new Radeon cards are absolutely terrible and you pick up an 8800 GT, and by that time, its prices should have settled down back into the $200-$250 range.

Let me be the first of many people to say: 8800GT.

If you're interested in OC, definitely Intel.

Wait just one to two more weeks to see what ATI has to offer and worst comes to worst it will just drive down Geforce GT prices or even force nvidia to release their 256 mb model of the Geforce 8800 GT which has a MSRP of only $150!

I think you meant MSRP of $250 but I agree that 8800GT looks like the best option right now. Any way, from the initial leaks, the upcoming ATI offerings will fall short but I am waiting for it as well.

I'd go with Intel over AMD.

The new ATI/AMD cards are 3850 and 3870, due Nov 15 th, be patient price wars waiting in the
wings, should be less then Nvidia's 8800 GT

Ooh, Canadians eh? Well, let's see, Intel looks to be the dominant proc maker for a good long while though AMD keeps lowering prices to bring some price/performance parity even at the cost of giving up the high end so if you get a good deal on that x2 6000+, good on you. As far as video card, wait to see what happens with the ATI cards, as everyone else has mentioned, but most likely you'll be looking at getting a 512MB 8800GT of some variety for around $200 in a few weeks.
