Hi all,
I have a couple of large .avi files that I want to:

1: Put on a cd and play on my computer

2. Put them on a cd and play them in my Dvd player / TV.

So far it looks like Nero (with the proper plugins) will do both but will run through an encoding process before burning. However I have found a few sites ( http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/userguides/111846.php is an example) where there is a fairly involved process in doing this.

Am I right about Nero doing the job all by itself? Just looking for some opinions before I burn a bunch of coasters:))
Thx
Gary

You should use DVD2SVCD , it can also convert AVI to MPG1 or MPG2 and it does it all automaticaly and when it's done you're left with BIN & CUE files you can burn & watch on your home dvd player. :)

If you want the simplest process, using Nero for encoding & burning will do for you. However, there are numerous other software (some mentioned above) that can improve/tweak the result.

He said they were large files, that's why I said to use DVD2SVCD because it will cut up the vcd or svcd in as many cds as needed.

Nero can't split ? Seems like it would come very naturally to a dedicated CD burning soft... Have you tried?

Go to vcdhelp.com. They have message boards, guides to do all sorts of things (including encoding/ripping), links to tools and everything to create VCD/SVCD/DVD.

From what I've read, you can use Nero but if you use virtualdub and tmpgenc then you are supposed to get a better quality mpg. Not to sound like a broken record but vcdhelp.com is great for tutorials.
