Hi guys,

Someone I know has a MSI6160 MoBo on an Intel 440LX Chipset. CPU is Celeron 433 (socket, not slot).

Currently board has 64MB SDRAM at 66MHz. I need to know if the board will support current 133MHz SDRAM DIMMs, or at worse if it will support slightly older 100MHz DIMMS.

And are there any current boards that will take PIIIs as well as his old Celeron? This may be a last resort because we need to upgrade the RAM but want to try avoiding 66MHz and 100MHz DIMMs.

Please help.

Thanks

i don't know how much you were planning to spend, so it's hard to give advice... however, assuming you have at least $100 or so to contribute to the cause, and want to stick with Intel, here's my recommendation....

1. Tyan S1857 motherboard... it's the BX version of the Trinity 400, both Slot1 and socket 370 interface. I just snagged one of them, brand new, on Fleabay a couple of days ago for $40 shipped.
2. Keep your current processor for the time being if money is tight, if not, go here, or speak with Compuwiz1 directly....
3. Buy a decent stick of sdram, since it's dirt cheap right now. I think Crucial 256mb pc-133 cas2 sticks are running abot 65 right now, can't check because the Crucial site is down for maintainence...

Good luck to you 🙂
