so i just reformatted my rooomates insprion b130 laptop(windows xp pro), it had alll sorts of viruses malware spyware etc. i got every driver installled and when i install the networking driver it installed and then says driver not installed in a little pop up menu in the botttom left corner. the wirelesss programs were installed because it has the wireless option thingy in the bottom right corner only thing is, when it searches for networks, i keep hitting refresh and its not picking up a single one. also there is no ? next to the networking menu in device manager so its leading me to beleive the driver is installed because the software for it is on the bottom right hand corner.

everything worked fine on the laptop before i formatted it and reinstalled windows. i got every other single driver to work, i have even tried installing the driver from different websites, and i get the same isssue, my roomates leaving for her homeland Barbados tomorrow morning and i was doing this as a gesture of good faith cause shes a great person, if any body could help me it would be greatly appreciated, thanks and god bless.

Is the light for the WiFi actually on? You would be surprised how often that can get turned off and some of the older drivers will not know, they will just endlessly keep searching for networks.

Open the machine up and locate the wireless card to confirm which model is installed then install the correct driver. For future reference it is always a good idea to find out what wireless card is installed before doing a system wipe because manufacturers like using different cards on the same model laptop for some reason (I can only image it comes down to whatever they have in stock when the machine is built).

For a full list of drivers scroll down to "network drivers" on this page.

Of course if you don't want to open the machine you could try installing each driver 1 at a time until one of them works but that really would be the noob option.
