is there anything different about using a sata drive? i never used one before. i got this today and i installed it. after installing it, everytime i try to load up dvd shrink or nero, it freezes. i thought it might be firmware, so i installed new firmware. its the same thing. is there anything i have to do, like install something else first? it detects the drive in bios and some dvd i could read. i just can't rip or burn anything. and when i formatted computer and try to install nero over, it says unable to install and C++ or something. i need help fast.

thanks

That drive (actually any ATAPI SATA drive) does not work with ALL SATA controllers. There is a very incomplete compatibility list on plextor.com . Mainly it will work with some Intel chipset SATA controllers and those based on SiliconImage chips. All controllers that claim to be SATA II should also support it.
. If your mobo chipset doesn't support it, you can get an SI based PCI controller inexpensively and disable your on-board SATA controller(s) - or you can use the on board too if you need.

so this mean that there's nothing wrong with the dvdrw, its not working properly because of incompatibility with my mobo sata controllers, am i correct?

thanks

Since you haven't provided any specs on your PC at all, I can't even hazard a guess. But that's a likely possibility if you didn't do your homework before buying...

If your SATA mode is set to IDE, try it in RAID mode. Also check with MSI. I would say that if the drive doesn't work in either mode, you will need to use an add-on SI based PCI SATA controller (Syba is <$20 shipped from lots of online dealers).
