Hi,

My computer is currently sporting the 8600gt and I've been thinking about upgrading it for a while now. All the new games I try to play require me to lower the res and down the settings to low. I want to be able to play games on high settings with the natural resolution of my monitor.

I've done some research and have come down to two cards; either the ati 4870 or nvidia gtx260. Which one do you recommend? Are they worth the upgrade from a 8600gt? And will they be able to handle current games ie. bad company 2?

My computer specs:
CPU: core 2 duo e8400
RAM: 4gb
Monitor: 1680x1050

with a setup like that you want to be looking at getting a 5770, especially if you're playing BC2. it's more than fast enough to run the game in DX11 and it's about as fast as a 260/4870 in other games on average.

from the GTX 465 review. card should be doing even better now with the performance boosts in the 10.5 and 10.6 drivers. if you really like playing BC2 however i would highly recommend also getting a quad core CPU upgrade. BC2 is very CPU dependent even at higher resolutions, and an e8400 isnt going to cut it as well as even a q9550 will. if you dont have the budget now, i would get a 5770 and then get sandy bridge @ launch. this is going to be more or less true for any card now as well, and i would say that while they will handle current games fine, there's a lot of titles coming up that are probably going to be a lot more stressful on current hardware, so keep that in mind when picking your card

Any card $100 or more is pretty much worth the upgrade over an 8600GT. That would basically include the HD 4850, HD 5750, HD 5770, HD 4870, HD 4890, HD 5830, HD 5850, GTS 250, GTX 260, GTX 465.

A great video card for your rig is a GTX 260 216 core 896mb

There also wouldn't be a bottleneck with this GPU . so your good to go... good luck let us know.. thx
