Need Upgrade Advice

Well, it has been a long long long long time since I have posted on here. I totally lost interest in computers for a while but am now regaining it. I decided to check pricewatch and found that there are some very fast processors out (I stopped paying attention around when the 800 Athlon came out) but I am still running a PII 266@400 on the ol Abit BH6.

While it shames me to ask this as it used to be info I could list off the top of my head I need upgrade info. I really don't feel like getting rid of the BH6 or my memory so I would like to know what the fastest processor is that will run on this. I see there is a PIII 800 that uses the 100MHz bus but I do not know if the BH6 supports up to that speed or if it supports the 256k cache. The Abit website says it supports up to the 700 but I was wondering if it would take an 800.

If somebody could please just email me at FFCBairn@hotmail.com or IM me at FFCBairn with the answer I would appreciate it

It should run the 800 mhz, being that the chip is multiplier locked you can set the fsb at 100 mhz.

Too bad, I dont think the revision 1.1 supports Coppermines. Only revisions 1.2 and above. You'd probably have to get a new board.

Dr Who, I'm going to refute what LXi said in his post (don't mean to stomp on your post LXi <g> ). Abit's official policy is that only the rev1.1 BH6's will support CuMine processors. That's a bunch of bunk. There are reports too numerous to mention of people successfully running Cumines to 850MHz (not overclocked) on rev1.0x BH6's. There are also plenty of people running overclocked CuMine's (usually in the range of 550 - 700MHz, original speed) on all revisions of the BH6.

FWIW I'm running an FC-PGA P!!!-650 cB0 on a rev1.02 BH6, along w/ an Abit Slotket!!! and a Thermaltake Gorb HSF. Overclocking >100MHz FSB will be a function of how well your video card takes to speeds >66MHz, as well as how your hard drive reacts.

Check out BH6 & CuMine for an explanation of the VRM issues specific to the BH6 rev1.0x and 1.1.
