Need upgrade advice

I just purchased a whole new rig, E6400. 2 Gig RAM, 320GB HD, 20.1 montior,etc.

I have an old PC that the kids will be using, but it needs a little more punch. It's an old P3-1000 with 512mb Ram and 60GB HD, 32mb Video Card and the RAM is PC100 (LOL). Typical IDE hard drive, etc.

So I was wondering if it's even worth upgrading to a P4 or an AMD of some sorts. I will need to MOBO, RAM and CPU. Any suggestion on what to do? Whether it is via NewEgg or whatever, or finding something on Ebay. And considering I just spent $1400 on a new PC.
 
Get an AM2 sempron system, a stick of value brand DDR2 and a GeForce 7800GS. That's mid to low end, but upgradeable for the future.
 
I would probably need a new PSU unit as well? Don't recall if the old PSU has the 4 pin power connector as well. I will have to look.
