hey everyone...i know i can count on one of you guys to maybe show me a link to a newer bios for this board. its a MSI MS-6120N Dual PII mobo. i searched high and low for this board and need a new bios in order for it to accept faster cpus. at the moment im running 2 450's. my bios is dated 1996 and i would think they revised it since then. i keep finding the MS-6120 bios on MSI's site but i dont want to attempt it if it wont work. the 6120 has on board scsi support but this one doesnt so i dont know if i flashed the other bios if the scsi stuff would just be "off" by default or if it would feck everything up! any thoughts on this would help....thanx in advance 🙂

what you can do is back up your current bios. though I haven't flashed too many boards from different manufacturers, generally the flash program allows you to save your current bios just in case the newer bios you're flashing doesn't turn out for ya. I've done it in the pass and just flashed my original bios back if there was something in the new bios I didn't like.

Good luck 🙂

Usually SCSI has its own bios seperate from the main bios. So, I would think that the bios you found would be OK. You would just have to set the bios to boot from SCSI if you have any SCSI drives that you boot from. Really, it should not be any different than a normal system with an add-in SCSI card, the main bios is sperate from the SCSI bios. So, unless MSI has combined the 2, I would think that bios for the mobo w/out SCSI would work for your board as long as SCSI is the only difference.

If you have an MSI board, one of the best BIOS updates will be from the manufacturer itself. If your Mobo doesn't have the SCSI, the installer would just install the necessary updates for your PC. I notice this with MSI BIOS updates ( I have two MSI boards), the update screen in DOS shows that some are not upgraded. Make sure to boot from pure DOS. If you have WIn ME, make a boot disk, boot from it and choose minimal boot. AND MAKE SURE NOBODY TOUCHES THE POWER.
