I've got a brand new Fujitsu MAJ3182MP that I believe to be underperforming. I chose this drive as it was highly recommended at Storage Review. In the benchmark's that Storage Review lists here, it shows the drive having a beginning transfer rate around 42mb/s. I have used several programs, and mine continually scores about 10mb/s slower. That's 25%, which is enough to vex me.
I haven't been using SCSI long and am wondering if there are any common tweaks or settings (software, jumpers, or in the SCSI BIOS) that one should adjust to get results similar to those displayed in the review. The jumpers on the drive are all factory default - except I set it to ID0 instead of ID15. I'm using Windows 2000 Professional.
Details about my setup follow:
My ATTO results:
0.5 write = 431, read = 8215
1.0 write = 5457, read = 13887
2.0 write = 14458, read = 21270
4.0 write = 24769, read = 26835
8.0 write = 28100, read = 29286
16.0 write = 25327, read = 31946
The read stays at 31946 and the write fluctuates a little until:
1024 = write 24672, read 31880
My HD Tach scores show a max read of 33, and an average of 31.
The card is the LSI U160 model built on to the ASUS CUR-DLS motherboard, and the cable is the one that shipped with the Gateway 6400 series servers. It came with a terminator attached to the end of the cable. The quality of the equipment seems high, but that's not based on exerience with SCSI equipment, just look and feel.
The cable has (I believe) five ports on it counting the one that the terminator is attached to. I have drives on the second, third, and fourth port (which is about two inches from the port that the terminator is in). The Maj is in Port four.
Thanks for any and all help. 😱
