Ok, My brother in law calls me up today asking me to help him buy two laptops. He needs one for his wife who is currently in college, and one for himself. She will be doing school work finances, and playing The Sims... He will use it for surfing, downloading content, and burning cd/dvd.

With the price range in questions can you all help me out with a decent laptop, that is capable of all this. They do not have to be the same laptop as long as they can do what is needed, also quality is a priority, and no they are not fans of the Mac...they would prefer dedicated video memory if possible....thanks

Limit $,1400 no including tax and 2yr ext warranty...

Lots of good choices.

The Asus F3J Series and A8JP on newegg are both gret deals with dedicated memory and C2D. Around $1300 or so.

Also, Lenovo is having a nice sale on Thinkpads. They should be able to get a Thinkpad with C2D and dedicated video for around $1100 plus whatever other upgrades they want.

Dell and HP are always an option if you want to go mainstream and roll the dice with quality, but the Asus and Lenovo are the better notebooks.

That's cold. LOL. Mod moved your thread. I know this is the proper forum for this question, but you'll get more and better answers in OT in 30 minutes than you'd get here over the course of a day.

Total. K, then we're going with the HP DV6000T on this one.

Go to HP Home. Configure the base model with a Go 7400
GPU and the total is $649. Make whatever other upgrades you want (HD, dvd burner, CPU), but that celeron is a Core Solo derivitive, I'm fairly certain, so it'll be a decent performer.

Done.

I got an Dell e1405 a few months back with core duo, dvd burner, 1GB ram, etc etc etc for $572. It looks like the deals haven't gotten back down to that price, though
