Please help me troubleshoot and fix this strange video problem. Every few minutes the monitor will flash-- the screen becomes completely dark for around one second and then returns to normal. this happens once or twice then everything is normal until the same thing happens a few minutes later. There is no apparent damage done, everything seems to work normally before and after the flashing.

My System: Win XP Pro sp2 + all hotfixes, FX-55, MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum MoBo (MS-7025) Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG, 2 X 512 MB OCZ PC3200 Platinum Rev. 2 RAM, Gainward GeForce 6800 GT Golden Sample normal settings, 160 GB SATA and 120 GB PATA HDDs, Dual Monitors 21" Triniton Tube CRT and 20" LCD.

Prime 95 - Stable Overnight, PC Mark 05 - 4918 (avg of 5 runs) BTW -- Would I see much performance increase by going to 4 X 512 MB of RAM? If I did this, should I get more of the same RAM? ( the Rev. 2).

Thank You!

Best,
Walter.

This happens to me at work too. Also affects some other people here to. We are stumped.

What software do you have installed?

Is your video card dual DVI? Do both monitors flash or just one? If only one flashes, try switching the monitor to the second port of your video card. I've encountered a similar problem with a eVGA 6800GT and a Dell 2001FP monitor.

Try removing your speakers from near the pc. And look for other things that might cause interference. For example, at work when I use my kvm, all the other people's monitors in my office go black for a second (like they just got degaussed). This is because my monitor sprays interference out like a beast. When my monitor is off nobody ever has problems.

Nocturnal: It only happens on the LCD-- and it IS a Dell 2001 FP! My video card has 2 DVI Outputs-- I will try switching to the other one.

Source-- Speakers are on the wall, well away from the monitor, there are no other sources of interference.

Thank You!

Best,
Walter.
