Ok I have
2.6 ghz
512 ram
Radeon 9800 Pro
80 gb hard drive.
19" LCD

I want to upgrade everything besides my video card and monitor. Im willing to spend around $900.

Im thinking I should get an AMD, I would like 1.5 or 2 GB's of ram. I want a sound card thats good for gaming but dont want to over do it.

any sugestions?

Have you thought of going to pci x yet? You could still get everything you need and a 6600GT pci x for around $900 or maybe a little more. Or you could keep your PRO and be stuck with an agp motherboard for a while. I know cause I went from a 6800 to a 6800GT(AGP) and had to buy a new board for the 7800gtx. I guess it depends on how long you're gonna keep the 9800pro.(don't get me wrong, still an excellent card!) I'm just saying that it's kinda future proof to go pci x and you'll probably get your money's worth out of it. Get an EVGA brand card if you get a new one!! They have a 90day step up program so if you want to upgrade again within 90days of the purchase date they will honor your purchase price towards the purchase of a better card through them! That's how I went from the 6800 to the 6800GT. Make sure you buy it from a place like newegg.com or monarchcomputer.com because they're authorized retailers for EVGA. 🙂
A 3700+ diego would be a great choice along with an ASUS nforce 4 mainboard.(great tech support!)
audigy 2 zs
maxtor 250gb sata2 16mb cache
2x1gb corsair valueselect or XMS(I have the XMS and it's great...does 1T no prob)

I think all this stuff is actually closer to $1,000 with the 6600GT

Well good luck with whatever you decide

Well I'm guessing my 9800 PRO will last me for the next 2 years. By that time I will be off to college and will probably of bought my own PC. I'll stick with an AGP motherboard.

Thanks again.

Can anyone give a link to where I choose these stuff at monarch.
