if your system does not already have a usb 2.0 controller, you need one. i do not recommend getting a cheap one, although it may work just fine. feel free to ask if you dont know if your system has a usb2.0 controller.

adaptec's site, look under "USB Adapters"
belkin's site, F5U-220 or F5U-219

many others will work, those are ones that are commonly found in a retail store (bestbuy, circuit city, compusa, etc). obviously, you can get a better price online, or if there is a sale. sometimes there are rebates on these items.

You also need a USB chipset that is compatible with USB 2.0, of course. If your motherboard doesn't have one, you need to add a PCI USB 2.0 card to your system. Then, like mentioned before, install SP1 if you haven't already (a major service pack for Windows XP) and make sure your chipset drivers are installed.

I'm almost certain that you have regular USB and would need to add a card which I've seen for as low as $10 if you hunt.

I added a Belkin USB 2.0 PCI card to a friend's machine, and it worked nicely.

$27 bucks and change at Wal-Mart. Four external and one internel. Just upgraded the wifes machine. Her machine uses the same motherboard you have. It works well.

Why do you need to upgrade your USB to 2.0?

Do you have any USB 2.0 devices?

My father keeps saying that he wants to upgrade to USB 2.0 but he has not USB 2.0 devices and has no plans to buy any.

USB 2.0 does nothing for your computer performance unless you have 2.0 devices.

With Service Pack 1, or 1a I think it is now, you can just stick a PCI USB card in there. Newegg's got a whole slew of cards to choose from. Maybe go ahead and get one with Firewire capability too, though this will add to the cost a bit.
