Need to upgrade my other computer.

My other computer specs currently are

P3 600 @ 800
384MB PC133
7200RPM HD
Hercules Geforce 2 64 MB

And i want to upgrade it so it can play games better. I have 2 choices

Choice 1: Get a Geforce 3 Ti 200 or maybe radeon 8500
Choice 2: Get a Athlon XP 1600+ and a ECS Sis 735 moterhboard

Choice 2 is tad more expensive. But not much to worry about

Which would u choose? Remember just want to upgrade it to play games better. Current destkop performance etc is definatly fast enough.

BTW if i choose choice #2 i would have to use PC 133 SDRAM. And since that system has 3 sticks of 128mb and ECS mobo only supports 2 sticks. I would only have 256mb of pc133.

Another thing is. Games being played on this computer usually run at 800x600 but i have to turn down lots of settings. I want to be able to turn some of the setitngs up so it looks better.

Thanks 🙂

Well, it sounds like you need a better video card more than a new cpu/mobo combo. I would recommend the ATI 8500 if you can afford it. The Geforce 3 TI200 is a good choice too, but even overclocked I don't think it can quite beat out the 8500. You should check out some reviews just to make sure. You would be happy with either choice though. Those are the cards I am currently looking at too. I say upgrade your video card first, then when you have a little more money go for the other upgrade option. Plus, like you suggested that if you upgrade now to the other option you wouldn't be able to use your 3rd stick of ram. Good luck.

aye i was thinking of upgrading video card to. but wasnt 100% sure whihc one would be better solution. upgrading the video card would be easier. Hmm. Any more opinions?

Yes, I would upgrade the video card too cause if you upgrade the cpu, it's still going to have a GF2 as a bottleneck in games. The GF3 Ti or the Radeon 8500 will be good choices for that config. Go with the one that you like the best. Although the 8500 is probably a faster card, there have been issues with it so it would probably make more sense to go with a GF3 TI200 since drivers usually have less problems.
