I am giving my girlfriend my current monitor that I got for the black friday deal last year at Best Buy for $200. Its the Westinghouse LCM-22w2.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16824255003

Brightness 280 cd/m2
Contrast Ratio 700:1
Viewing Angle 170°(H) / 160°(V)
Response Time 5ms

I am in need of a new monitor (thats better.) I want one with whiter whites and black blacks and an overall better monitor.

It will be for my gaming PC.

I was looking at the 22" and 24" range. The 24" seem rather epesnive. 30% more screen for 2X as much money. However I hear they have better quality screens (by far?) and its worth it?
I don't really want to spend no more than $275 for a 22"....

Special inputs not needed - however would be nice. Just need DVI.

I was looking around and I found these...

Nice? Good? Sucky? I wish there were better standards for image quality for monitors.

ViewSonic X Series VX2240W Black-Silver 22"

ViewSonic Graphic Series VG2230wm Black 22"

I need this monitor rather quickly because I ordered the parts for her PC last night. :)

ViewSonic made some alright CRT's but I don't really like the LCD's I have seen from them. My LCD at work is a Viewsonic, and it is WAY too bright, and burns images really easily.

Because that 24 incher is as much a TV as it is a monitor. This "HDMI but no DVI" config is on several other 24 inchers too. You can get DVI-HDMI adaptor pretty cheap.

I am not sure why you gave away the Westy, I have the LCM-22w3 and I love it. Most 22" TN based LCDs use CMO (Chimei) panels. Westinghouse, Viewsonic, Acer, etc (& even Dell) use CMO panels for their 22" TN LCDs.

Regarding the 2 LCDs you linked to in 1st post: the 2ms reponse, "Dynamic Contrast" and all that are just overdrive gizmos and marketing hype that Viewsonic adds. Bottom line is that they very likely use the exact same panel as your LCM-22w2, so I would not expect any dramatic improvement from buying either of those monitors.

You should read "The LCD Thread" sticky at the top of this forum, lots of good info there.

Thanks for the reply. I gave her my monitor because im building her a gaming PC and I was hoping to use it as an excuse to buy myself a better monitor.

Thanks for pointing out that sticky.

However, I still don't know what to buy..... I wish LCD performance was more clean cut - like i could chart it on a graph and say this monitor is better than that monitor. But its all so subjective....

I think ill go with a 22" display. I cant afford much more than that.

So if you had $285 to spend on the best gaming monitor what would you get?
