Need to test motherboard without case.

So my brain is not functioning properly tonight.

I have a motherboard that I believe is bad. I borrowed a spare one from someone and just need to boot it up. Problem is I do not have the case anymore. So what do I need to do to power everything up? Just briefly connect the "power" pins on the mobo?

Gonna try and do it tomorrow but want to make sure I'm not overlooking something.

find the 2 pins on the mobo you would have connected the pwr switch of the case to and use a flat tip screwdriver to simultaneously touch them. You only need to touch them for about a fraction of a section. You should see the fans kick in and release it...

I have a power switch that shorts the power pins on mobos when working outside of case. I usually work on a anti-static mat, but you can use whatever flat surface is availabe. A sheet of foam or box cover can do the job too.

Finally had some free time to do this and I can't get it to power on. I have connected the ATX and ATX 12 V to the mobo. The cpu hs/fan is connected to the correct header.

I have 2 different power supplies, two different motherboards, 2 vid cards, enough ram for each to have 2 sticks.

I know I am getting power to at least one mobo because it has a small amber LED that will light up. Not sure about the other mobo becaus eI borrowed it.
I've used a flat tip screwdriver to quickly (and not so quickly) touch both power pins to make a connection. Nothing. No fans at all.

Any other suggestions?
