What is the best way to monitor/stop activity on my internet connection? I am using a cable modem. What is happening is that even though no browser is open, there is a considerable amount of activity (led flashing)on my connection. I have
tried Zone alarm, Norton internet security, and also used Ad Aware to remove "Spy Software". I have not had the problem until a few days ago, when I noticed a slowdown in performance. Help!

did you use zonealarm's option to "engage internet lock"? just right click on the icon in the system tray, and select that option...if that doesnt work, dont know

You might be experiencing the CodeRedII problem that most people on cable/dsl have noticed recently. There really is nothing you can do about it. The traffic is coming because some computers, usually members of the same cable service as yours, are infected with the CodeRedII worm. The worm tries to connect to random ips (usually with the same class A or class B address as the infected computer) on port 80 to find an MS IIS server to infect.

get a lil thing called 'filemon'. It tells you what is being accessed and when (real time). Just start it up and watch it run. You should check for any odd internet traffic leaving your computer.
