Need to ship my computer cross country

As per title, I need to get my computer from point A to point B.

Here is my plan. Detach all cables. Remove any agp/pci cards, hdd's, and the cpu hsf. Ship these seperately. Ship the case (with PSU, mobo, and optical drives) in another box.

Does the above plan sound good? Is there anything that I might be missing?

Thanks in advance for input.

You'll be better to ship the computer as a whole. Parting it out would have a likely chance of missing critical parts while being shipped. IMO

Take the HSF off of the processor.
Good catch. I was actually going to do that, but forgot to mention it in my first post. Thanks.

Hmm, but I'm not sure if all of the components would be safe in the case. The main concern being that excessive shock to the shipping box can be bad for my hdd's and the agp/pci cards.

I'm interested to know as well, since I may be shipping my computer cross country. I wonder what kinda packaging Dell or any other premade computer company uses for their systems...?

The last time I shipped my computer was international and I was stupid enough to leave everything intact except my HDD. It was a slot 1 Celeron 300A system, and the slot just dropped off and tumbled all around the case. Luckily everything else in the case was still working except for the dead CPU, so I think it should be fine unless you have a big/heavy heatsink.

I suggest that you fill the interior of case with bubble wrap. It provides protection from items coming apart and banging around in case.

Outside of case you have all kinds of options. Good packing.

I've always wondered about what I would do if I needed to ship across country. I'd almost be tempted to just sell of a majority of the parts and just buy them again when I got to the other side. Assuming I was moving 😛.

I may be paranoid, but I'm afraid of bumping my tower or putting it down hard; have a heart attack if I knew what the handlers did with it in a box.

i suggest try filling up the inside with styrophone thingies and pack it tight, then bubble wrap the entire outside of the case with at least 3/4-1 foot of bubble wrap and use more styrophone to fill up the box. try to get a durable box that wont rip when thrown arond cuz thats what the mail carriers do, you think they carry your packages by hand? lol. doubt it. get fragile take and make it clearly seen on the outside of the box. get shipping insurance and ship it next day or 2nd day with delivery confirmation, good luck
