Need to send Fax -- can I scan document and e-mail fax for free?

I need to send a fax but at the present time I do not have a local phone. Is there a way that I could scan a document as a JPG (or PNG or whatever) and send out a fax for free as though I'm sending out an email attachment?

Uh...yeah...I thought about using Google. But guess what? 75% of the stuff that comes up in Google searches today is now some sort of advertising BS or sites that just latch onto a name and don't contain any info. That's why I thought to post here.

It turns out that I was able to get NetTalk up and running and faxed through NetTalk. Hopefully it came out OK.

There are free fax sites. They usually put an ad on part of the cover letter and limit you to a certain number of pages.

Good enough for those occasional faxes you need to send.
