Need to secure exhaust pipe to underside of car..

My exhaust pipe fell from my muffler and is now dragging on the ground. It is still attached to the front of the car. I need a way to attach it to the underside of my car somehow so I can get it to the mechanic. He's about a 20-30 minute drive in city traffic. My friend suggested I use duct tape, I was thinking some sort of wire to tie it up underneath there.

Any suggestions as to what I should use to secure it? Is there anything in particular I should secure it to, or anything that I should avoid? After it is secure, would driving it for that long be risky, or could I just take it slow and listen to see if it falls off. If anything I have AAA which can tow me up to a certain distance.

Duct tape and Baling Wire, maybe with some Beeman's or Blackjack gum for good measure.

But yeah, easiest solution is a metal coat hanger, uncoil it, bend it around, and tie it securely to some chassis mounting. We had a Volvo 240DL like this that we left the coat hanger on for like 10 years and about 400k miles :)

That's a good way of getting a fit it ticket.

The OP wants something temp so it wont drag on the way to the mechanic. Should be a quick and easy way to fix it temp.

Yeah, that'll work then.

Yep, and it did. We jacked it up and tied it off to a mounting bracket, worked well. I'm going to get the whole pipe from the converter back replaced, including the muffler. Pretty rusted out under there. Thanks for the help.

Wire. Don't use duct tape...duct tape SUCKS at anything high-temperature.

This happened to me on the highway at night one time. The shower of sparks flowing from the back of my truck was quite the show, I'd imagine.

Just get under the car and pull the broken piece off.
You probably just need to get it out of one rubber hanger
near the back of the car. Not hard at all. Should take 5 mins.

Shoot, a buddy of mine, years ago, told me the majority of his exhaust system consisted of old vegetable cans (the big ones, that are about gallon size), hose clamps and exhaust tape!
