Chaps,

my SetiQ server was down again from 5.30pm last night.
The problem is, other people have access to this machine and seem to feel the need to reboot it and leave it at the logon prompt.

Has anybody managed to run SetiQ as a service ????

cheers guys,

Col.

OK. Found this....

The only thing left to be done now is to take care of the SetiQ window, which shows client connection info. I myself find it to be a pain in the butt, since it gets in my way. So you can either set it up as a service using srvany.exe (for those running NT or 2000), or hiding it using a program like Trayer. One advantage of using Trayer is that you can pull the window back up if you need to- although you generally can get any info you need using SQ.

OK... Now I'm looking at the NT4 resource kit as that seems to be where to get srvany.exe...

Place setiq.exe, instsrv.exe and srvany.exe in the driectory where you want the q, make the changes to the qseti.txt file that you require then type the following at a command prompt:

"<SetiQ dir>\instsrv.exe" SetiQ "<SetiQ dir>\srvany.exe"

then you will have to enter the parramaters to get it to run as a service...

Cut and paste the following in a file called s.reg, edit the directories that point to setiq, not forgetting the double \) (or use the same as me for the first step) and run it:
<cut>
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SetiQ\parameters]
"Application"="c:\\winnt\\system\\q\\setiq.exe"
"AppDirectory"="c:\\winnt\\system\\q"
"AppParameters"= ""
<cut>

Note this is for Win2K for NT4 change the first line to:
REGEDIT4

once this is done open the services applet in the controll pannel (under Administratove Tools in Win2K), and start the SetiQ service.

Thats it, job jobbed!!

Hope this helps

LOL...

Found out why....

It works with the single \....

But...

When I entered the string values I put the "" in so when I went back and looked at it, there were 2 sets of "" around the path to setiq.exe...

Thanks for your help again mate...

cheers,

Col

Hey Col & The_One...

Can one of you guys post the info that worked for you? I mean, do you need the double \\'s or do you use a single \ ? What about the ""'s ? I'd like to set my SetiQ up as an NT4 service and eventually a 2000 Server service after we switch over. I'm sure rleach2 is interested in this as well.

Thanks a bunch!

Hi,,

You can get instsrv.exe and srvany.exe from the link above...
You need them to install SetiQ as a service.

Then follow The_One's instructions or those in the link and you should be there..

Takes about 5 or 10 minutes tops.....

Mine seems to work with single \

Then use the sq utility to monitor SetiQ..
Copy sq.exe (comes with SetiQ) into c:\winnt\system32

You can then run sq from anywhere

eg. sq <hostname or ip address> stats
