I'm looking to do something that'll actually interest me for a research project I have to do. I need to research an Amercian author from 1608-1860. Any recommendations?

Here's what I have to research

Accomplishments of the author
influences upon the author
impact of the author upon others
literary genre of choice
significant historical events of the time period in which the author flourished
anything else of importance

Allen Poe intensly disliked the name Edgar, and he never used it. After his death, people unknowingly refer to him as Edgar Allen.

It's a good thing no one can reach beyond the grave to express their true displeasure, especially Poe.

Good idea UG. Definately one to consider. I've always liked Mark Twain, except this one really boring book we had to read in 8th grade about finger prints or something. It sucked :p

Keep em coming though, I want to make sure my author isn't taken and I have someone tomorrow.
