My friend needs to rescue some data off of his old HDD...He goes to My Computer and clicks on the respective HDD and tries to get to his data but he doesnt have admin rights to get to the data, because he has several accounts on this HDD from his previous windows install...What is the way he can get his data back?

Right click on the folders, go to security, click on advanced, then ownership, and change the owner to the account he is logged in as. Then he can do whatever he wants to the folders.

Right-click folder, -> Security -> Advanced -> Owner -> Choose his user -> Replace owner on sub containers and objects (tick) -> OK -> OK.

I should've mentioned that it is XP Media Center he is using...

Shouldn't matter.

Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View -> (right down the bottom) tick off "Use Simple File Sharing".

Then the Security options should be visible.

If not, reboot into Safe Mode, log in as Administrator, and the Security tab will appear.
