Need to replace Socket A (ecs k7s5a) UPDATE!

Noticed some swollen caps on m/b while upgrading my vid. to a radeon 9500pro in my K7S5A/Athlon Xp 1800 combo.Works fine for now,but the writing is on the wall.Money is tight can only afford to replace board.New or used m/b is fine.My options:

New:
-ECS 741GX-M SIS 333 MATX AGP8X - $75.00 Can. shipped.

Used:
-Biostar Motherboard M7V1G-400,with case and 350w psu- $60.00 Can. shipped
(used only 2weeks)VIA KM266 Pro

-Epox 8RDA+ retail box all accessories - $70.00 Can.shipped
DDR based NF2 (18 mths old)

ECS m/b has warranty,but only goes up to 333 bus semprons,Epox nf2 board,faster,cpu goes up to 400 bus.The Biostar m/b,only 2 weeks of use,like new,but like ECS m/b only maxes out with 333 bus semprons.Any thoughts?Thx.
 
Get Asrock 939Dual-SATA2 and a A64 3200+ or Opteron 144 and call it a day. Keep AGP card, RAM, and the rest and be on a socket 939 platform. Woo! Under Should be under $350 CA
 
Ribbon has only has the cash to replace the mobo. Skt A advice will most likely be a lil dated from most of us. Stick Id go with the Ecs or the Epox, are you really gonna need the DDR 400 or are u overclocking nad using a divider to 333 or 266 anyway?
 
Thanks for the replies.I have ddr400 ram,the epox nf2 board is a little pricey for a used board.,the biostar board tempts me solely cause it's like new(2 weeks use),and I get a case and 350w ps to boot!But to be honest I'm leaning towards the ECS board cuz it's new plus warranty.I just wanted some input from other users.Sadly I'm behind the times but my pc has done what I ask of it,and I just upgraded it from a gf3 ti-500 to a radeon 9500 pro,talk about bleeding edge.Thats me, cheap!But any of these newer boards will allow me a modest upgrade soon to a faster cpu.So it has it's benefits.Thx.
 
Contact ECS and tell them you've got bulging caps! Can't hurt to try...I just got my Epox 8rda back from Epox (last week) due to failure related to bulging caps. EPOX replaced ALL the caps (bulging or not) and cleanup up the board and shipped it back to me for free.

All it cost me was the initial $5.80 to RMA the board to EPOX.

I replaced my trusty K7S5A with PCChips M811LU mobo and sold to my friend when I bought new 939 mobo. It was good mobo with Althon XP 2400+ until cpu died. It costs me only $39.00 not bad price for PCChips mobo.
 
I've replaced K7S5A with PC-Chips M848A once or twice. This goes rather seamless since it's also an SiS chipset, and there's little potential for Windows not wanting to boot the new mainboard.

The M811 uses a VIA chipset, and an old one to begin with. It's been the equivalent of $15 here in Germany. Yes new. Retail pack. People dislike it for its less than optimal AGP compatibility. The M848A suffers no such problem.

But then, I have also successfully replaced the capacitors on K7S5A no problem, as long as it's still running and hasn't blown other components. If it's not a "Pro", then the capacitors you need aren't hard to get - 2200µF 6.3V 105C 10mm diameter. The "Pro" uses 3300µF 10mm, which are nearly impossible to find.

 
I replaced a K7S5A with a Foxconn 748K7AA, and WinXP handled the upgrade very well. The 748K7AA seems like a pretty good board. My only gripe was it didn't support S3 sleep (fans off), even though Foxconn's web site said it did at the time (they have corrected the web site since). Don't expect much in the way of documentation, though: Foxconn included just a pamphlet.
 
Another vote for the soldering...cheapest solution and not too difficult. Did that with lots of BX boards in the old Capacitor faking issue days...

Thanks for all the replies.Bought a new m/b locally.Surprisingly the shop had one I was looking for Asrock K7S41GX(sis chipset),they also had an Asrock K7VT4A-pro(via kt400a).After some deep thought(like 5 minutes) I bought the Via based board.Reasons being,it has Sata,and also supports socket A up to 400fsb,and 5 pci slots.While not cutting edge it has more potential for upgrades.I hope I made the right choice.

Oh and I'm gonna replace the caps on the K7S5a,that should be fun,as I can't solder worth crap.
