Need to replace portable HD

My brother gave me a Sony portable but the HD makes noise and it won't boot. I used Spinrite and Norton disk doctor but no joy there. I imagine I'll have to replace the HD. The Sony replacement part is costly to I want to find something else. WD make some drives with more than enough capacity but I know portables have proprietary hardware. Does anyone know of a HD that will fit my portable? Thanks.
 
I went to the newegg page and it said that there was a "clicking problem" with this drive. That's what it's doing now while trying to load Windoze XP. Maybe I should just try updating the firmware? Of course, that may be a problem because it won't boot now from the HD but it will from the floppy. Hmmm...
