My Onkyo TX-SR706 has finally took a crap. I originally post about loud static and picture roll then after about a few minutes all was well. Now I have no sound and no picture.

I need recommendation on replacement unit. Need comparable unit or better. I have no idea what i really need but I do know i have sub-woofer, four speakers in ceiling, center speaker, two speakers outside, and ipod docking station. I have Cable HD but an older Sony TV which i'm thinking of upgrading next yr. I also have blue ray and wii game. I would have called by audio guy who did the install a few years ago but he has lost everything with the economy downturn. Need some help.

thanks in advance.

Denon AVR-3312CI, Onkyo TX-NR809, Yamaha RX-A1010 are all under $1k online.

Yamaha RX-A3000 sometimes come up on sale as low as $900 on newegg and Marantz SR-6005 can be found for around $700 online.

Also Best Buy Magnolia Open Box prices can be insane. I've seen a RX-A3000 go for $700 (60% off! :O)

budget would be less than 1k since I'm thinking of upgrading my TV too.

Notwithstanding this high budget, one option might be to go for the Denon 2112ci. You should be able to bargain an authorized dealer down to the $400 range. Audio-wise, it has some benefits over your current Onkyo (it has Audyssey MultiEQ XT whereas I believe the Onkyo just has the MultiEQ). Where the Denon is lacking is in the video upscaling (it doesn't do it at all). But the capabilities of a good upscaling AVR might not be important if (a) your TV does a good job, or (b) you don't watch stuff that isn't already natively in HD format (I don't know how your wii fits into this second consideration).

Just saying, because saving $600 on the AVR might free up a lot of money for a killer TV.
