I've got an inspiron 4100 that has really bad picture where the colors are "bleeding" all over the place. Hard to explain without showing a picture of it. I can temporarily fix it by bending the LCD pretty hard towards the back but after awhile, it returns to it's bad state. It's still useable but I'd like to fix this permanently. Since I am bending the top left portion of the screen, I believe the LCD itself may have a crack somewhere but my knowledge here is pretty thin. Could it also be a bad cable connection? I've never really opened up an LCD before and have a gut feeling it's going to be a pain in the arse doing this. If a replacement is necessary, I would like to upgrade from the 1024x768 res to 1280x1028 screen. Is this possible? If so, what should I look out for? I think it's a 14.1" LCD. Searching eBay, I think the screen inside is a Samsung LTN141X8-L02 model.
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

There are data cables that can go bad on them and can be replaced. I replaced one recently on a dell. Basically I carefully removed all the screws visiable holding the laptop together making note to which ones went in which holes. I then removed the screw covers on the lcd which are basically sticky foam pads covering the screws. You might be able to just remove the screws holding the lcd together and not mess with the screws on the bottom at all. The cable is a thing orange data cable most likely and I found a replacement on ebay which ended up working great.

Hmm..but is my situation a case of a bad cable or with the LCD itself? The cable is located towards the base of the screen correct?
