Need to replace laptop DVD drive

I'm attempting to fix my friend's TOshiba Satellite M35x laptop. The CDRW/DVD drive got damaged, and the tray actually fell out of the housing.

I found a DVD drive in the FS/FT forums, and I am pretty sure it will fit. Additionally, the back plug matches the one on the broken drive.

Are laptop DVD drives almost interchangable, or is there a possibiolity that it would not fit?

The original drive is a SD-R2512. The one that I believe will fit is a GD-S250. Should I be okay with this replacement drive?

Electrically mostly yes .. physically mostly yes, except sometimes the
face plate won't fit the case properly ... it uses a standard IDE interface
Toshiba sells it for $109 ... hope you can get something for less

Thanks for your response. I was thinking I might just remove the faceplate so that it properly fits in the laptop. I'm getting it for much less than $109
