Need to replace a JVC KD-DV5100 head unit.

So like the JVC SH-99 I had before this, my DV5100 decided to develop a "minor" but rather crippling fault. The optical drive won't do anything, including play and eject a disk. Which sucks because other than that I was very happy with it. Now, I can go out and get a DV5500 for about $200, but I'm a bit reluctant as they seem to have four year lifespans.

Requirements:
Plays MP3s off of DVDs
Prefer under $200, will go a little higher if it's something I really like.
Single DIN (can go for the Chrysler DIN and a half, but it'd require tearing up my dash, double DIN is a no-go)

Having a screen to watch DVDs is a big "no care", I'd never actually do that.
Would prefer one that doesn't look like it was a Star Trek TOS prop.

I was half considering just getting one that just plays off a USB and leaving an SDHC card reader stuck in the front all the time.


Any recommendations?

Current thoughts:
Using a Pioneer DEH-P4100UB or P3100UB and a (physically) small USB drive. It's not like 4-8GB drives are large nor expensive these days.

My friend just put in a P4100UB, very nice looking, easy to use, sounds great.
