Need to put together a mid level system

So needing to put together a mid level system.

Should I go with something like this:

NF7-S
AMD 2500+, 2800+, 3000+, 26000+ M

OR

AMD A64 skt 754 3000+
DFI NF3 250 mobo

Either system should be able to make use of :

ATI 9700/9800 or 6600 vid card
1 Gig PC3200 (DDR 400) ram

I understand I'm dealing with last generation parts. But this is a give away and needs to last a couple years of homework/decent gaming while being somewhat on the cheap.

So that being said, best bang for the buck what say you ??
