Ok I have the plesure of selecting 58 laptops to purchase. I've been looking at Dell. Any other advice? Here's my concerns.

Screen size/quality is least important.
When at work, the laptops will be docked
to a docking station and 17in monitor.

Weight is semi-important. From my experience,
6-7 pounds is the maximum.

Dependability is most imporant. These laptops
are basically so that people will have their
work/documents/emails/drafts with them whereever
they go.

I use a Dell from work. I like it alot. IMO the only other brand to consider is IBM.

Don't skimp on memory or screen size. I used to use a ThinkPad with a small screen and I didn't do nearly as much work away from the office as I do now.

Well my opinion is IBM Thinkpads, they are very durable and well built. They even have become more uptodate with their specs and features. I have seen some running 100% CPU load for months, like running SETI, without any problems.

Gateways seem to be pretty good though i am a little biased :) If you need configurations or pricing email me and I will see what i can do.

I've heard good stuff about IBM's too.....and I still think that little knob you use as a mouse, kicks ass

We have a few Dell Latitude at work, they seem fine, though I dont have much experiance with laptops. I´d still prefeer to have a GeForce2 MX in them instead of some ATI junk ;)

We have had trouble with multiple Gateway laptops here at where I work. I would suggest either IBM or Dell. Especially Dell though, they make a sturdy product.

Last year we bought 13 dell inspiron 7000 and 7500 laptops/with docking stations. They are excellent. There is no question (we also had IBM and Toshiba to compare to), and 1 call to Dell and you will be able to negotiate a sweet package foe an order that size.

For good laptops there are really only three options:

Dell
Toshiba
IBM

Toshiba's are actually the highest rated, but for 58 of them, id stick with Dell or IBM, just out of expirience when buying bulk laptops from them.

Just to put a different spin on things, absolutely the best laptop I have seen comes from ASUSTEK, yep the same as the famous mobo maker. The screen is the most brilliant I have ever seen.

I would say either Dell, HP or IBM. Have used them and are great. Maybe with Dell you can configure them to suit your needs better.
