Need to monitor uptime on a network connection

I've got a branch office that seems to have trouble at every machine with network programs hanging for a long time at random times throughout the day. It seems to me that it's the hub on their network that is having problems. However, the company that we got the hardware from is trying everything they can to deny that the hub could possibly be bad. I've checked the WAN and LAN interfaces on the router, and there were minimal carrier transitions reported, and it hadn't been cleared since April of '05.

The hub is a 3-Com hub, but I don't have the model number on me at the moment. I could get it if it's necessary. The hub doesn't have any reporting / logging capabilities as far as I know.

Is there any software (free prefered) that will monitor the network port on either an XP workstation or the Windows 2003 server to let me know how often the connection to the network is being lost?

Thanks for the help.

Check out Karen's LAN Monitor at www.karenware.com. I not sure this what you need or will do something like what you have in mind, while her programs are free for home use there are nominal fees for commercial use, but you always give it a try.
