Need to mod this case quickly, temps are not acceptable, advice needed.

Ok, first off I used to have a Lian Li PC65B (really miss it now) but I got in on the deal for this case. It is actually a decent deal and working out great considering the PSU powers my 9800 Pro and processor which is overclocked 600mhz. But I have an issue....temps.

For comparison in my Lian Li my ambient temps were 22 to 25, now they are 34 to 37. Core temps in my Lian Li were 36 to 43, now they are 48 to 53.

I was thinking about picking up this dremel. and doing a bit of modding. I think a blowhole on top would be a good start, using a 120mm fan I have read would be wise as well? (for maximum benefit) Also, I need a place to cut out a hole/slot for the controller knob on my YS-Tech variable fan's controller, any suggestions?

I have a nearly identical case to this one. The problem with it is that air can't get in too well from the front of the case. I think that some intakes on the side panel (probably below the window) would get your temps back down to where you want. You most likely aren't having a problem getting air out rather than in.

Good point, although that would require cutting the side window, which can be tougher I bet?

"probably below the window". There appears to be enough space under the window to mount an 80mm fan or two.

Also, if you don't use the front USB ports, take them out. This will open up the space under the front a little. Make the blowhole at the top also, but I don't know if you want that big of a fan up there. Maybe you can make it fit under the PSU and put an 80mm on the roof.

My suggestion is to water cool it. Drill some holes and hook your fan on the opposite side of the radiator and make it blow all the hot air out! You'll see a big difference.

the rear exhaust grate needs to be sliced off with a dremil, looks to be impeeding air flow. if theres a front mount i don't see how effective it could be. slicing a hole in the top and the side would be a good idea. look up some good tutorials. you can use car door edge protectors as edging. you can also get a hole saw to cut the blowhole instead. as for the chintsy plastic window, you just have to make sure to go really slow, else it'll melt. my friend has that cheapo case.

You could always remove that back grill and put a decent fan in there and have the air sucking into the pc rather than extracting it as it does seem as there is no air at all flowing into your case !
Also it mentions there are no ventilation holes in the bottom of your psu so you could also try modding that with a fan or two.
Like you mentioned adding a blow hole will deff help matters but you still need to get some cooler air into the case which is my reasoning for the first sentance I made.

no, reversing the rear fan would be bad. would create a short circuit of airflow, instantly being sucked out by psu and not really cooling rest of case.

you should have invested more in a case to begin with, cheaping out only hurts in the long run unless your willing to really slice and dice. power tools cost money though:p

chenming dragons for instance have 3 intakes and 2 exhausts out of box! with good ventholes to boot.

in order to really cool it your going to have to cut atleast 2 more holes. if you want to lower fan rpm to cut the horrible racket, you might have to cut 2 more:p

Not neccessarily, but that fan position is the only place to put a fan into action and at least get some form of air flowing into the case without doing any cutting, etc.
I agree on the case choice, could have deff found something better suited.
You could also create a fanhole at the base of your case with a 120mm fan, provided you use it with a filter especially if your case is sitting on the floor.

examples for you. the non mod case with window can be found reasonably priced, ~60-70 dollars without psu, 89-99 with psu depending on if its aluminum or not etc.

the white case is a cheapo case that had to be sliced and diced. 2 92mm fans, 3 80mm fans added. top fan wouldn't fit inside quite right so i just screwed it to the top:) all fans conneted to the vantec nxp 201 fan controller. all running at near minimum speed so its pretty damn quiet while moving a decent amount of air. i also connected the psu fans, but thats harder.

the panels are plastic on the outside, so i didn't use any edge finishing because its not sharp and i didn't care if it was perfect. i have another metal case that i did use car door edge protectors to finish the metal hole edges.
